About
The way we live day by day has been constantly changing in the past decades. Pollution and many other factors have been the leading causes of global warming and climate change across the world. We need to be educated on this and learn ways to stop our world from deteriorating.
Greenhouse gasesGreenhouse gases make the earth warmer by trapping heat from the Sun. We omit greenhouse gases by the electricity that we use, the oil burned from our planes and cars, cutting down trees, from all the trash we dump on our earth, etc. As we do/use these things, more and more gases are being released into the atmosphere. |
global warmingThink of global warming as a huge thick blanket covering our earth. It used to be a small thin blanket, but as more greenhouse gases are omitted, the thicker the blanket has become. Every year our temperatures have risen exponentially. Glaciers & ice caps are melting, storms are getting stronger, our bodies of ocean are getting warmer (killing the fish), our trees are burning etc. |
earth's futureAs all of these effects of global warming are happening to our Earth, scientists and environmentalists believe we do not have much time on Earth. Stephen Hawking gave humans a century to leave this Earth before it is too late. The temperatures will increase significantly making it impossible to survive. Sea levels will rise and take over our land. The Arctic will become ice-free. More and more animals will become extinct from these factors. |
Now that we know what is happening to our earth, here's how we can fix it.
OUR GOALHere are three ways we can help save our earth. |
First wayCarpooling
One way to help against climate change is to drive less. Rather than using your own car, try to carpool or use public transportation. Maybe even consider walking or using a bike. Carbon dioxide, or CO2, is a major contributor to climate change and vehicles emit a large quantity of CO2.
For every 2 mile car trip, 2 pounds of CO2 are put into the Earth's atmosphere. |
second wayThe Three R's
You can also help out by practicing the three R's: reduce, reuse, recycle.
Instead of throwing things away, see if you can find another use for them or donate them. Recycling helps fight climate change because it takes less energy to make a product from recycled products than starting from scratch. Also reducing the amount of plastic we use can reduce the amount of toxins that enter our atmosphere. |
Third wayChanging Your Diet
Eating less meat when you can will help our environment. The the animal agriculture industries emit a large
amount of greenhouse gases. The livestock sector, which includes things like feed production and transport, is responsible for around 14 % of all the greenhouse gas emissions around the globe. Even incorporating something small like meatless Monday's or replacing one meat filled meal a week can help our environment. |
